June '16 Sketchbook

Well, the last day of June is here, which means it's time for a monthly sketchbook post. Since I've been trying to post nearly every day on Instagram, a lot of my sketchbook has already been shared. But there are a few new things here, mixed with some familiar doodles.

Things I Didn't Eat for Breakfast

Another Instagram series I'm doing, just for something completely different and random. Although I'm finding that it's hard to come up with the right kind of random things to draw. Who would have guessed it would be such a challenge to think of things you didn't eat for breakfast?

Plant fairies

Did a few quick fairy character designs for Instagram this week and thought it would be nice to share them all on the blog. I based them off of some of the interesting house and garden plants I had on hand. Most of them are on my Instagram account, accept for the ponytail palm, which is debuting here.

Plant sketches

Got a few quick plant sketches to share for this week. I've been trying to get back into my art projects while still managing all the house projects and chores we've currently got going. But my garden is offering ample opportunity to sketch plant life, so that's pretty neat.

MerMay

This May, I joined the MerMay challenge, started by former Disney artist Tom Bancroft, and drew a mermaid for (mostly) every day in May! This post will be a bit lengthy, but I wanted to get all my mermaids onto the blog, even though they're already on my Instagram account (if you want to follow me there, you can find me at bethanypyles). I have this weird thing about not liking to post redundant work on social media platforms, but I think I'm figuring out how to be balanced about it.

I've also decided to be more consistent in posting daily drawings on Instagram! It probably won't be a "you most post every single day or terrible misfortune will befall you" sort of thing, but I like the idea of showing up there consistently with something new to share.

Right, on to MerMay!
