September '16 sketches

More sketchbook stuff (no plants this time ;-)). I drew most of these while Jon was practicing with his guitar ensemble at a local college. It's nice to draw stuff like pipes and hallways every so often, because they're important to learn, but I'm not naturally interested in drawing them. The last page of mouse gestures were of a house mouse "guest" we had yesterday. He was sooo cute!! ^_^ And fear not, he was captured (with the help of copious amounts of peanut butter) and released into the wild. It was actually kind of a fun experience!

Plant sketches (again!)

I seem to have stumbled headlong into houseplant obsession (and by stumbled, I mean charging enthusiastically into!) It's probably not a very "cool" thing to be into, but I don't care; plants are awesome and I love having/buying them!! ^_^

Anyway, drawing the plants seems to be part of my general obsession. They have so many interesting forms and shapes to study. And they hold still! All that to say, today's sketches are of plants and there will probably be more plant sketches in the future. You have been warned!! ;-)

Plant watercolors

I've decided that, instead of doing a big sketchbook post at the end of the month, I'm going to start posting my sketchbook work on a more weekly basis. Doing so will hopefully get me to draw in it more consistently, and it will also be a bit easier to manage. (With everything else going on right now, my blog posts have not been as strong as I would have liked. :-/) Anyway, here a few watercolor studies I did of some of the plants in my Sun room,(which I refer to as The Conservatory. ;-))

Crocagator exploration sketches and studies

So, today's post is not as "together" as I would like. :-/ I'm working on a new character (Little Crocagator, who is a cross between a crocodile and an alligator), for a project and I'm stuck in the "draw lots of things that aren't right yet" phase. But I'm going to post what I have anyway because 1) I need something to blog about today and 2) this is an important part of the process. It certainly isn't glamorous, nor does it feel very rewarding, but if you don't push through the first few (or many) crummy designs, you never get to anything really great. I'll definitely be updating as the character progresses and my designs get (hopefully) better!
