May '15 Sketchbook

Lots of ink and watercolor portraits this month. I've been making really good use of those water brush pens! It's been nice to practice coming up with color pallets and color combinations.

Corgis and Totoros!!

Honestly, "Ultimate Happiness" might have been a more accurate title for this post; you really can't get much better than corgis and Totoros!! (For those of you who don't know, Totoro is a character from the Studio Ghibli film "My Neighbor Totoro", which is pretty much my favorite film ever.) Both topics came up on the Twitter Sketch_dailies challenge and I simply could not pass the opportunities up. Normally everything I post on Twitter shows up in my Facebook feed, but I could find either of these paintings there, so I decided to post them here. Interesting fact about corgis; according to Welsh lore, fairies used to ride them and the fur on their back has a faint mark left over from the "fairy saddles".

May '15 Skill building: Poses

I did a few pose studies for this months skill building. Not my finest work, but there's always tomorrow.

Digital painting experiments

A few quick digital paintings I did on my new Cintiq, which is awesome!! I kind of wish the values were a little stronger on the pink and blue reading girl, but I can always try another version later. Also, I've noticed I lean toward blue backgrounds when I work digitally, so it would be good to get out of the box a little in that area, too.

I'm planning on doing a few more paintings over the coming months to get used to the technology, so stay tuned!
