Hello all! I've decided to brush up on my animal rendering skills. Here are a few quick studies done with pen, clear gesso and black watercolor. It was kind of tricky to control, but the effect resembles an ink painting, which I think is pretty nifty.
Not thrilled with this one. I over worked the background.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
sincerely,
me
ooo, I like the first two! I'm curious what the gesso does, like how does it affect the appearance? does it make the watercolor less watery?
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of hard to tell in the images, but the clear gesso leaves a gritty texture on the paper after it dries. That texture effects how the water color absorbs into the paper. The brown paper probably wouldn't work as well with watercolor because it isn't very thick. The clear gesso gives it an extra layer to work with. The main disadvantage is that once the watercolor paint is on, it's a bit tricksy to work with. I need to practice with it more so I can get a better feel for its limitations.
